You may have seen my review post of the lovely package of goodies Urban Decay sent me the other week. I felt though the Naked Ultimate Basics palette* deserved a post of it’s own and I of course wanted to share some swatches!
I love the packaging of this palette, it’s pretty and sturdy and has a huge mirror. I’ve already dropped it (oops!) and none of the shadows shattered so they’re well protected meaning this palette is safe to take when travelling. You also get a double sided brush, although I personally don’t tend to use the brushes you get with palettes I gave this one a go and the bristles are good quality and easy to work with.
I have always been a fan of matte shadows for everyday looks, yes I love shimmer shades but it don’t find them as practical for everyday especially with where I work. The Naked Ultimate Basics is an all matte palette of gorgeous neutral shades so basically, a palette of dreams for me!
It has a very good mix of lights, nudes, mid tones, darks and even a matte black. There honestly isn’t a shade missing in my opinion if you’re looking for any everyday palette.
The shadows thankfully don’t have a lot of fall out, something I’m always critical of. There’s a little fall out in the pan when using your brush, ‘Blow’ has the most but there’s next to no fall out when using these shadows on the lid. All of the shadows are so soft and blendable. If you don’t have a lot of experience with eyeshadow then this is a great starter palette in my opinion because the shades are so easy to work with and the colours are nice and neutral.
Now time for some swatches! As always swatch photos are unedited and in natural light.
As you can see from the swatches these shades are very pigmented. ‘Blow’ is demi matte so it’s slightly less pigmented than the other shades. ‘Blackjack’ and ‘Magnet’ don’t look the most pigmented in the swatch but when used on the lid I haven’t had any issues with colour pay off. Without an eyeshadow primer these shadows stay pigmented for around six hours before starting to fade a little. With a primer you get around another three hours wear.
I absolutely love the first six shades for a simple, neutral everyday look. I’ve been using them almost everyday since I got this palette! I set my lid with ‘Nude’ and then work ‘Commando’, ‘Tempted’ and ‘Instinct’ into my crease. ‘Lethal’ goes on the outer third of my lid and then ‘Blow’ goes on the inner two thirds as it’s demi matte so it highlights the inner perfectly. I finish it off by working ‘Commando’, ‘Tempted’ and ‘Instinct’ along my lower lash line. If you have this palette give this combo a go, it’s perfect for everyday!
